In a proud moment for Kupwara, local folk musician Ghulam Rasool Bhat has received national recognition after his music was featured on Radio Kupwara 89.6 FM's "Local Talent" segment.
Bhat, a 28-year-old Rabab player from the remote village of Keran, was discovered by the station's talent scout team during a community event. His soulful Rabab compositions, blending traditional Kashmiri melodies with contemporary themes, caught the attention of listeners and eventually reached a wider audience.
"Radio Kupwara gave me a platform when no one else would listen. Now I have been invited to perform at the National Folk Festival in Delhi. I owe this to my community radio station," Bhat said emotionally during a live interview.
The station's "Local Talent" segment airs every Sunday evening and has become a launchpad for many aspiring artists from the Kupwara region. The program encourages listeners to submit their recordings and auditions for an opportunity to be featured.
